FINAL GRADE IN A COURSE - Wyomissing Area Junior-Senior High School assigns higher weight to each succeeding marking period and semester exam as the school year unfolds; i.e., the second quarter is weighted more than the first quarter, the 3rd quarter, more than the 2nd, and the 4th, more than the 3rd.
GPA & CLASS RANK - Unweighted GPA reflects the combined calculation of the final grades earned in all completed courses, regardless of course level.
Weighted GPA reflects the unweighted GPA plus the weight earned for honors and/or AP courses. AP courses receive a weighting of 0.25 if the final grade of A, B, or C is earned. Full year Honors courses receive a weighting of 0.2 if the final grade of an A or B is earned.
Class rank is a student's cumulative class standing based on weighted GPA from the end of 9th grade through 12th grade. Rank is computed at the end of each year and at mid-year for seniors to determine valedictorian and salutatorian.
REPORT CARDS - Families are encouraged to access and check PowerSchool on a regular basis to monitor academics. Students will receive their report cards in school with the expectation that they will take the responsibility of presenting them to their parents or guardians. Parents, therefore, need to make note of issue dates so that they can anticipate receiving this information from their child. See school calendar for dates for the end of quarters 1, 2, and 3. Final report cards will be mailed in June.
