This year, Wyomissing Area
Junior Senior High School will implement a new student internship program, bridging the gap between school and college or career readiness.
The internship program will allow students in eleventh- and twelfth-grades to gain professional experience before they enter college or a career. They will be matched with a
professional mentor and collaborate to custom design an internship to best ft the student’s needs.
Depending on the student’s schedule and current workload, internships can be adjusted for any student. Each participant will communicate regularly with his or her
advisor, complete weekly reflective assignments, conduct professional interviews and compare current literature about the career to learn skills. While no two internships will look alike, the professional experience gained will help
Wyomissing Area School District students stand out among the masses as they move toward graduation.
The internship program currently has 10 active students who will begin their internships in the upcoming semester. Current internships include athletic management, information technology, facilities management, classroom
education, special education, business, and
public relations.
Assistant principal Matt Redcay says, “The internship program enables students to explore their interests, learning critical practical application skills.”
